Welcome

Jul 25

The Association of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Graduate Students—AMIGAS for short—represents the graduate students in the MIE department of the University of Toronto. We are responsible for organizing social and professional development events, orienting new students to the department, and representing MIE graduate students at the GSU (Graduate Students Union).

We have a Facebook group that you should join! If you would like to reach us, feel free to send us an e-mail.

Hi MIE!

Make sure you save the date for the 2012 MIE Research Symposium!  It is June 4th, 2012, and it is a great opportunity to learn about the current research projects in MIE, to interact with the faculty and, most importantly, to witness true innovation.

The keynote speaker will be Prof. Gang Chen, Professor of Power Engineering at MIT. All MIE graduate students can submit abstracts for oral or poster presentations. Prizes will be awarded for the top oral and poster presentations. The deadline for abstract submission is May 1, 2012. You can submit your abstract on the website:
http://www.mie.utoronto.ca/research/symposium.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and the symposium will close with a wine & cheese social and awards ceremony. The event is free, but you must register to attend. We at AMIGAS look forward to seeing you there!!

More about square dance:

Old time square dance is a traditional folk group dance with eight dancers
arranged in a square. The dance was first described in 17th century England
but was also quite common in France and throughout Europe, and bears a
marked similarity to Scottish Country Dancing. During the dance, square
dancers are prompted or cued through a sequence of steps (square dance
choreography) by a square dance caller to the beat of music—almost a “Simon
Says” in dance form.

Here are the pictures taken by Nina from the event.
